Jo Curkpatrick judge at IABC Awards

"The Malaysian Chapter did a great job of organising the judging and we had judges from across the region to assist," says Jo.

This is Jo’s sixth year of judging the Gold Quill, including a year as international chair of the awards and two years as Asia Pacific Coordinator.

Who can enter? The Gold Quill Awards are open to members and non-members of IABC - strategists, managers, practitioners; corporate, government, and not-for-profit communicators; consultants; photographers; graphic artists; tacticians and students.

The awards honour the individual and celebrate best practice in business communication in communication management, communication skills and communication creative.

Entries include a Work Plan and a Work Sample and are judged on technical excellence, creativity and innovation, effectiveness in identifying and responding to an organisation’s or community’s needs, the delivery of measurable outcomes, and the overall success of the project.

Entries are judged at a regional or category level with entries reaching a score of 5.25 advancing to second-tier judging at which the international Blue Ribbon Panel judge each entry again. Entries scoring 5.25 – 5.74 receives a Gold Quill award of Merit. Entries scoring 5.75 and above receive a Gold Quill Award of Excellence.

"It is very difficult to make it to Excellence and any entry that does has matched it against the best in the world," says Jo Curkpatrick.
